Project Fi, Google's MVNO, is running a new promotion on the latest and greatest from LG. From July 16 until the 29th, whenever you order and activate the LG G7 ThinQ or LG V35 ThinQ, you will receive a $300 service credit. When you do the numbers, that equals a minimum of three free months of service.

For a single line, the maximum amount a customer can be charged is $80 (plus taxes and fees). With the $80 plan, you would receive unlimited talk and text and "unlimited" data. After 15 GB of data, your data speed is throttled to 256 kbps (the equivalent of 1G minimum speeds). However, users can also choose to pay $10 per GB for unthrottled data speed when you reach 15 GB.

The thing is, most users don't use over 15 GB of speed (according to Project Fi, less than 1% of individual users) and here's where the savings kick in. If you happen to use less than 6 GB in a month, your monthly charge is less. While unlimited talk and text for a single line cost $20 (and $15 more per additional user), your data charge is entirely dependent on your usage for the month. So in essence, you could stretch the $300 service credit much longer than three months.

Bill Protection

Project Fi implemented a change in their plans known as Bill Protection. Instead of the $10 GB per GB structure of before, Project Fi now provides an alternative take on unlimited data plans. The first 6 GB on an individual account cost you $10 per GB. After that, the cost is capped, preventing any additional charges for extra data you might use after that. This 6 GB threshold increases if you have more than one user on your plan, so the cap is 10 GB for two people, 12 GB for three people, and so on.

However, if you use less than the cap amount, you will pay less. For example, if a single line uses 3 GB a month, they would pay only $50 a month (the $20 line charge plus $30 in data). If you maintain that level of data usage, you could go up to six months without having to pay a dime on cell service for your LG G7 or V35.

Because most of us aren't power users, the $300 service credit can save us quite a bit of money. You will need to remain in good standing with your account for two months of service before you will receive your credit, and you must activate the account within 30 days of the device shipping. Of course, you will also have to pay for the phones, which can be financed without interest over 24 months.

Project Fi is working up to be the best place to purchase the LG G7 ThinQ and LG V35 ThinQ. Not only do you get an excellent service that leverages the towers of US Cellular, Sprint, T-Mobile, Three, and Wi-Fi hotspots (using encrypted connections), but free service for at least three months. What do you think about Project Fi's offer? Does this make you want to try out the LG V35 ThinQ or LG G7 ThinQ? Let us know in the comments below.
